WRITERS WHO QUILT...
QUILTERS WHO WRITE...
If you read the blog above, you know that we have
begun a series of conferences and workshops on
writing at the historic house and museum at Pearl
S. Buck's Green Hills Farm near Doylestown PA.
We also had a recent successful writing contest and
are planning another this fall.
The editors of this blog feel that the thrill of writing
at a writer's actual house -- Pearl S. Buck's house -- is
an effective way of connecting modern writers with
Pearl's success as an author, speaker, mother, wife, and
humanitarian.
To extend knowledge and awareness of Pearl's success,
we are assembling a book (THE QUILT WRITER)
of articles, essays, memoirs, facts, tidbits, patches,
snippets, and pieces of writing which will try to explain
how the art of writing and the art of quilting (and other
fabric arts) use the same process of creativity.
So far we have articles on how romance writers use
quilts as symbols and themes, how community is built
through quilting bees, memoirs of personal quilting
experiences, the history of early quilting literature, the
rise and fall of quilting in popularity and many other topics.
Most entries run between 1000 to 2500 words. More info

We hope to publish the book to raise money for the
volunteer association of Pearl S. Buck International
to further her humanitarian work with adoption, schools,
and human rights. Since all the proceeds from the book
will go toward this endeavor, we cannot offer any
remuneration or reward for your writing except the
honor of having your name in such worthy company as
Pearl S. Buck, the author of THE GOOD EARTH and
winner of the Nobel and Pulitizer Prizes.
So, if you are a writer who quilts, or a quilter who writes,
please send us your best piece of writing so that we can
add it to our "patchwork" quilt book.
